So, today we will begin our Almaty City tour. The city of Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan. As of today, the population of the city is slightly more than 2 million people. This is all due to the fact that so many young people from small towns and settlements are moving to the largest city to find work and new opportunities. From 1936 to 1997 our city was the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
But since 1997, under the decision of our President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the capital has been moved to Astana. By the way, for those who might not know, to date Nursultan Nazarbaev has been the first and only President of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1991.
Let’s proceed to our tour. Today we will begin a tour from the world highest altitude mountain skating rink — Medeu. The whole journey to the rink takes approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, you may climb either at the dam and enjoy magnificent views of the city or continue your journey to the Shymbulak Ski Resort, where views are not less stunning. Here you can drink a cup of delicious coffee outdoors, if the weather cooperates, and soak up the sun a little.
Then, after exploring Medeu, we’ll journey further and already hold on for Koktobe place. This is a green mountain with the TV tower located at the top of it. You can also stroll through the fairly large viewing platform and enjoy beautiful views.
After you’ve had your Koktobe visit, we’ll continue our journey and get into the cognitive world, or rather the world of stories. Indeed, each of us wants surely to see and hear the history of the city in the country where you stay, and especially for the first time. So, you have a unique opportunity of a visit to the National Museum of Kazakhstan.
Well, after the museum, we’ll head straight to the Park of 28 guardsman of Panfilov division. Certainly, we are all heard or read about the Great Patriotic War. Now then this Park will share a short but very important part of history with you that cannot be effaced, and you also can insight into the story and understand only a very small part, what actually heroism the entire Soviet people have accomplished. The Cathedral, located in the same park, holds daily services, have very beautiful interior, where you can see icons of artists from Moscow and Kiev.
In a last step, the finishing touch of our tour will be the Green Bazaar. This is the place where the first market in our city was constructed in a random way. Here the city residents could buy food themselves for living, here the live cattle was sold as well, plus various fruits and vegetables.
Of course we must not forget that in those years, the variety of food was very, very modest, but nevertheless people managed to live. But, now the Bazaar is already the place where you can find everything, starting with a variety of types of nuts, vegetables, fruits, any kind of meat and ending with home-made dairy products.
